Review: by Lee

Having seen Red, I was mildly excited to see Red 2.  I'm not the biggest Bruce Willis fan, but the first movie was pretty entertaining; so, I decided to give it a whirl.

What I Liked:

Red 2 was funnier than a lot of the so-called comedies that have been coming out lately.  Of course, there were some corny jokes and some that fell flat, but there were also plenty of solid laughs.

John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Anthony Hopkins were fantastic.  Their characters were irresistibly hilarious and awesome.  Because I saw the first movie, I expected the performances of Malkovich and Mirren, but Anthony Hopkins was just a delightful surprise.

There was plenty of action, unbelievable action.

What I Didn’t Like:

I have to say that I liked neither Catherine Zeta-Jones nor Mary-Louise Parker in this movie.  I did not buy Catherine Zeta-Jones as the femme fatale this time around.  I loved her in Chicago, but this was no Chicago.  Mary-Louise Parker presented the same problem to me that I always encounter when watching her: I do not know whether she is a terrible actress or a fantastic actress who plays terrible roles.  I did not like her character, and I was baffled by her so-called feminine wiles.

It was outrageously unbelievable.  The relationship between Frank and Han was ridiculous, and the stunts that were performed defied the laws of physics.

Summary

It was entertaining, like the first. I would not say that it was spectacular, but I certainly did not walk out of the movie feeling disappointed.
