Warren Ellis to Relaunch Marvel’s Moon Knight

Moon Knight, the crazy Batman of the Marvel Universe, is getting relaunched in the All-New Marvel NOW! written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire.

Ellis is quite familiar with Moon Knight, having written the millionaire, gadget-equipped mercenary, who was brought back to life by an ancient Egyptian moon god, for several issues in his Secret Avengers run.  Ellis plans to move him to back to his origin city of New York from L.A. where he was left to battle his dissociative identity disorder and crime in the last Moon Knight series, penned by Brian Michael Bendis.

Ellis states that he plans to move away from Moon Knight’s personality disorder as a strong character point.

“I’ve known people with D.I.D.,,” Ellis said. “I, they and any doctor can tell you [that] you can’t catch D.I.D. just from pretending to be other people. If that was true, every actor in L.A. would be hospitalized.”

“The man is demented in more interesting ways than I think Batman ever was.”

“[His] cape is actually a crescent moon and he goes out only at night and dresses in reflective white so you can see him coming. Now that’s nuts…. I like that.”

Moon Knight #1 by Warren Ellis hits comic book stores in March 2014.
