Review: by GG
The first few issues focus on each character individually and how they got to Morning Glory Academy, but don't think that means there is a lot of boring character development stuff. In the beginning, you learn about each of the different main characters. At first, it can seem overwhelming because there are so many of them, but, as you continue reading, you start finding connections between the characters. Also, in the beginning, things are very confusing. Fair warning: weird, extreme, paranormal things occur.
We find out about each of the new students and get a tiny bit of background on them. Don’t worry. More character development comes later. There’s a tall clever blonde, a con-artist, a quiet guy, an emo-girl, a bully, etc.
The inside art is pretty good. The covers are decent, but the way the action is depicted is key and is done well. The art cover and the inside art are clearly done by two different artists, so they don’t look alike at all. I don’t find an issue with this, but some may. The dialogue and letters in the speech bubbles are easily readable as well. Everything is eventually explained, and you think things may finally be settling down when the next big thing happens and you find yourself hooked ready to read more again.
Everything is not given up in the beginning, but enough is revealed to keep you interested and wondering what will happen next.
What I Didn’t Like:
The only downfall of this series is that it only comes out once a month, and the first season just recently ended (25 issues). The entire series is supposed to be 100 issues total, so if you are reading, the series won’t be over for another 6 years or so.
Summary
This is a great, longer than usual first issue that really piqued my interest. It’s the beginning of a mystery, horror, thriller, and no one has any idea of where it is going. It definitely leaves you wanting more. Honestly, there are no “bads.” It doesn’t get much better than this, and I am already looking forward to finding out what happens next!
