Batman vs Superman – Everything We Know So Far
At Comic-Con 2013 during the Warner Bros panel, Zack Snyder, director of Man of Steel, announced plans for a movie that would bring both Batman and Superman to the big screen. The movie boasts Christopher Nolan as executive producer, Zack Snyder as director and co-writer, and David S. Goyer as co-writer and screenplay writer.
Zack Snyder claims he will be sitting down with Frank Miller, writer and artist of such big name comics as DC’s The Dark Knight Returns, 300, and Sin City, and taking his advice.
Ben Affleck has been announced as the actor portraying Bruce Wayne/Batman and is rumored to have a hand in writing. Reports say that he would not take the part unless he had some say in the final script, making him a likely candidate for directing the upcoming Batman reboot movie(s) and Justice League movie.
Further casting announcements have been made, naming Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor for at least six appearances. With Cranston cast as Luthor, Mark Strong, who was also rumored to be up for the role, is likely to come back as Sinestro. Additional early rumors mark Matt Damon as being involved in the Justice League, potentially as Arthur Curry/Aquaman.
Internet users have gone crazy over Affleck’s casting, and an online petition with over 74,000 signatures has been created in attempts to have him removed.
However, the internet has been wrong before…
Also, Affleck has heavy support from other celebrities like Joss Whedon, Patton Oswalt, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Stan Lee, Kevin Smith, and Brian Michael Bendis.
Those are the facts as we know them along with a few juicy rumors.
Our Opinions
We are fans of Ben Affleck’s directing ability and his acting to a lesser extent, but we do not think he is of the same caliber of acting as Christian Bale; regardless, we think he will do better than either Val Kilmer or George Clooney.
We already trust the big names in the producing, directing, and writing of the movie due to their track history, but the news that the director will be sitting down with Frank Miller only gives us more assurance that they will successfully integrate Batman into the new DC Comic Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, in choosing Affleck, they will be able to create the Batman that is the world’s greatest detective that the entire Justice League reveres.
We’ll just have to wait until 2015 to see what happens.
