Review: by Anthony and Lee
As a fan of the Riddick movie series (Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick) and the video games The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena) there was no way we were going to miss the latest addition to the franchise.
What We Liked:
The special effects were pretty good, and the creatures were interesting. The new world that Riddick explored was interesting, and watching him explore it while fending for himself would have made a good movie in and of itself.
There were nods to the first Riddick movie, PItch Black, which were great for fans of the series.
Vin Diesel did a great job reprising his role. With it being the third movie, he really nailed the personality and character of Riddick.
The scenes where Riddick was alone, interacting with his dog-like companion, reminiscent of Will Smith’s I Am Legend, were some of the best scenes in the movie. Watching Riddick bond with the creature was oddly heartwarming.
What We Didn’t Like:
The rest of the cast’s acting was atrocious. Jordi Mollà was horrendous at playing the so-called villain, Santana. He randomly peppered his conversation with bits of Spanish to let you know he was some sort of Hispanic, and he never really owned the scene as the villain.
The script was garbage. The majority of the conversations were random, poorly paced strings of lousy jokes. Seriously, the jokes were terrible.
Summary
The movie was terrible, but Vin Diesel was still cool.
