[Movie News] Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to Star in ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ Remake

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to star in a remake of the 1986 hit comedy Big Trouble in Little China.

Dwayne Johnson can do anything. He’s done just about every genre, but what’s most impressive is he’s consistently becoming a better actor.

Sure his film career started off rough with The Mummy movies, flops like Race to Witch Mountain and Hercules, but he’s found his groove like few other actors have.  Giving us great performances in The Other Guys, Pain & Gain, and of course the Fast & Furious franchise.  Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a legit A-list Hollywood movie star and much more than a WWE wrestling guy that can say a few lines without studdering.

Now with the most recent success of San Andreas he’s proven that he’s ready to be THE leading name for a successful movie.

Given all of this I’m more than ready to watch him crush this remake of Big Trouble in Little China, and if you don’t think he can do it…

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, scribes who made their names in the fanboy sphere with Thor and X-Men: First Class, are writing the new version.

Johnson will also produce the remake with his partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

John Carpenter was still on a his mid-1980s hot streak when he directed Big Trouble, which reunited him with Kurt Russell, the star of his earlier cult classics, The Thing and Escape from New York, and an Elvis TV movie.

Russell played Jack Burton, a trucker who finds himself in a supernatural battle between good and evil in Chinatown. Kim Cattrall co-starred as one of a group of women who are kidnapped so their bodies can service a two thousand year old sorcerer.

Johnson’s San Andreas grossed over $54 million domestically in its opening weekend and another $60 million internationally. He next stars in HBO’s new series Ballers centered around football players.

Miller and Stentz are currently working on Acme, based on the fictional Looney Tunes company.

Johnson, Miller and Stentz are repped by WME.
