[Movie News] ‘Sister Act’ Remake in the Works at Disney

Disney is remaking the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg comedy Sister Act.

In all honesty I’ll be OK with this on the one condition that it will result in the sequel Sister Act 2 getting remade.

A remake of Whoopi Goldberg’s comedy “Sister Act” is in the works at Disney.

Goldberg is not yet involved with the new “Sister Act.” Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah are on board to write the screenplay, and Allison Shearmur (“Cinderella”) will produce. The writers’ credits include “Ella Enchanted,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Legally Blonde,” “The House Bunny” and “She’s the Man.”

The original 1992 film focused on Goldberg’s lounge singer hiding out from the mob at a San Francisco convent, where she pretended to be nun. “Sister Act” also starred Maggie Smith and Harvey Keitel.

The movie generated $232 million worldwide, while the 1993 sequel, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” grossed $57 million in the U.S. The film was also the basis of a successful Broadway musical.

Smith is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and attorney Warren Dern. McCullah is repped by Verve, Jaret Entertainment and Dern.
