Review: by Terrell
This is the time of action movies and Gerard Butler seems to be in every single one of them.
Gerard is back again, as secret service agent Mike Banning. This time he is back in London with President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart), as they attend the funeral of the British prime minister. What starts off as a friendly attendance of all the world leaders turns into a trap to kill them. Now Mike has to get his president back home, by any means possible.
What I Liked:
This movie had some really good action scenes. They really had you wondering what was going to happen next. They go into great detail to show you where every bullet enters every bad guy that Mike shoots. The hand to hand combat is brutal; you see guys get their legs and arms broken. The chemistry between Butler and Eckhart is good, perhaps better than it was in the first one. This almost feels like a buddy cop film as they make jokes back and forth.
What I Didn’t Like:
There are so many things about this that don’t live up to the first film.
One of the things that really bugged me were the camera shots were really bad. Some of them were too close to the actors faces. The scenes that were filmed at night were barely visible. It was impossible to see what was going on, especially as some of the action was happening.
The use of special effects in this movie was horrible; now the first one wasn’t great either, but this one just takes the icing off the cake.
The scenes where they show buildings and helicopters blow up are terrible, they look like they are copied and pasted it from another movie. The entire movie fishes in the same pot that all of these movies go too, and that felt stale. I had to remember that this was London Has Fallen, and not Die Hard 2. The bad guys in this movie were boring and really didn’t do too much for the movie at all.
Summary
London Has Fallen is one of those sequels that you know isn’t going to be better than the first one, and it isn’t. This movie has a good cast of characters, they are under used, and barely have screen time in this one. If you liked the last movie, then I would say go see it, if not I would say wait for Netflix to see it, or just don’t watch it at all. Overall it’s the same movie plot as the first one, but a lot less fun.
