I can only sum it up as a damn good time at the movies and well worth the price of IMAX admission!

Ethan Hunt and company team up with CIA assassin August Walker to thwart plans that could destroy the world. Mysterious arms dealer, John Lark, and the Apostles, a terrorist organization, get on their hands on three plutonium cores allowing them to initiate simultaneous attacks on the Vatican, Jerusalem and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It’s up to Ethan and his group to retrieve these cores before it’s too late.

What I Liked:

While I enjoy the Mission Impossible films, I don’t have the same attachment to them as some of my other beloved franchises. That makes it all the more impressive for how gripping I found this movie. If Marvel and superheroes aren’t your thing, but you still want fantastic action, look no further. This is personally my favorite Mission Impossible ever.

While not filmed entirely in IMAX a great deal of it was, especially most key action sequences. I was very impressed by how I barely noticed when it went back and forth between the two. Very seamless editing. The scenes come off as bigger than life in that format and it only adds to the intensity. There were times in the film where I jumped in my seat and yelled which is very unlike me. I had to remind myself that it was just a movie.

The cast was excellent. Tom Cruise is amazing in this. I don’t know how he still does it and does it so well. Everyone had really good chemistry with one another and the newcomers like Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill didn’t miss a beat. Cavill, in particular, I was glad to see because I think he does really well in spy roles. I thoroughly enjoyed The Man from U.N.C.L.E. so I was hoping that it wouldn’t be the end of his contribution to good spy flicks.

Rebecca Ferguson as Isla Faust was another standout. Isla is a complicated female character wrapped in a lot of badass. She is so cool and I think the chemistry between her and Ethan was great.

Cast chemistry is so important in general and I think it’s a key to why franchises like The Fast and the Furious do so well. It seems to be the common denominator for films where we’re calling the 5th or 6th ones the best ones.

What I Didn’t Like:

I enjoyed the story, some of the villains felt a bit generic but the movie made up for it in other ways with fun characters you grow to care about, good plot, and fantastic action.

Summary

It’s one of the best films of the year for me, and totally worth seeing in IMAX. I actually want to see it again before it leaves the theatres. Your eyes will be glued to the screen for a full two and a half hours.
