Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was such a thrilling experience to watch. My son thought the movie was “awesome” as did I. With shiny comic book colors and hilarious inside jokes, “Into the Spider-Verse” is a brilliant and original adventure.
This is one of those films you must see twice in theaters. As much as I’ve enjoyed some of the other Spider-Man films, you can’t help but to be “Spider-Man’d out,” but all of that instantly disappears within minutes of watching this original blend of 2D and 3D style animation. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is funny, original and adventurous. The movie centers on a Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who becomes the new Spider-Man and ends up meeting other Spider-People from parallel universes.
What I Liked:
Regardless of some of the teen aspects of the film, the movies diverse characters and clear messages about friendship, courage, mentoring, perseverance, teamwork, and the nature of power and responsibility.
What I Didn’t Like:
The film is surely going to appeal to Spider-Man fans of all ages, however, it is more teen-friendly than “little-kid friendly.” The movie is pretty intense. And while the violence is mostly cartoonish, there are lots of fights that involve weapons (including guns), injuries and even death. There’s also large-scale destruction, as well as frequent peril, suspense m, and mortal danger. Some characters flirt a little and use words like (hell, dang, fat, stupid and dumb).
Summary
All in all Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is everything a great family movie should be; funny, filled with teachable moments and will appeal to parents and children of all ages. The animation in itself is very impressive, with lots of old-school comic book touches, and the plot is fast-paced and absorbing. Miles origin story is very close to that of Peter Parker’s, but he’s brown, younger, and has two living parents and is from Brooklyn, not Queens. This movie is sure to have your attention within seconds of it starting. Every and all should at least see it twice.
