[Movie News] ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Loses Director Scott Derrickson
This is unfortunate news. However, I trust Kevin Feige. This isn’t the first time the MCU has lost a director over “creative differences.” Patty Jenkins left Thor: The Dark World, Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, and if you want to be technical James Gunn was dropped from Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Again I say, I trust Kevin Feige. After landing the plane and successfully wrapping up the Infinity Saga over 23 films in three phases, which was no easy task, I think there’s a plan in place for the story Feige and Marvel Studios want to tell and I highly doubt the House of Mouse will have a hard time getting another director in the chair to bring Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to the screen. Also, even though Scott Derrickson won’t be directing, he will stay on as executive producer so it doesn’t seem like there’s any bad blood in this breakup and who knows he might sign on for another movie…maybe Doctor Strange 3 or something totally different.
Scott Derrickson is stepping down as director of Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Variety has learned.
The studio confirmed his departure in a statement, attributing it to “creative differences.” Derrickson, who oversaw the first “Doctor Strange,” will remain as an executive producer.
“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences,” Marvel said in a statement to Variety. “We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”
Derrickson also said the decision was mutual.
“Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on ‘Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences,” Derrickson tweeted. “I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.”
