[Comic Book News] Marvel Sets Winter Comic Book Event ‘King in Black’
Donny Cates’ Venom run starting in 2018 was one of the most welcome surprises for me in a long time. I’ve always liked Venom and thought he was cool but that’s mostly because I’m a huge Spider-man fan. But what Cates has done with Venom to further separate the symbiote from the spider and give it it’s own backstory and lore has been amazing. The introduction of Knull and the Necrosword also tie into Jason Aaron’s Thor run in a great way so I’m intrigued to see what else Cates has in store for the rest of the Marvel Universe.
While Empyre and X of Swords, Marvel Entertainment’s two previously announced event storylines spanning multiple series, are yet to begin in earnest, a third such storyline is already set to launch at the very end of the year, with the announcement of a follow-up to 2019’s Absolute Carnage, titled King in Black.
Written and drawn by the Absolute Carnage creative team of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, King in Black will see the arrival of Knull, the oft-teased “God of the Symbiotes” at the center of Cates’ Venom series, as he finally takes on Earth’s mightiest heroes in person.
