I can’t help but wonder if this is another tv show casualty due to COVID-19.

Six seasons is plenty long and it’s not like the writers don’t have to scramble to write the final three episodes to wrap up the story because they’re already working on the entire final season now.

It’s amazing to think of where and how this show started on CBS with the showrunners contemplating whether Supergirl had to fly, to the hoops that had to be jumped through for Supergirl to cross over with Arrow and The Flash, to bringing the show over to the CW and properly incorporating it into the “Arrowverse”.

Arrow has ended. Supergirl is ending. Is The Flash next?

“Supergirl” is officially hanging up her cape.

In a joint decision, the CW and producers Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions have announced that the upcoming sixth season of “Supergirl” will be its last.

Production on the “Supergirl” curtain call is set to begin later this month, and the writers have already started developing storylines for the final 20 episodes, according to sources. The network is aiming to premiere the sixth and final season sometime in 2021.
