[Movie News] Ethan Hawke to Play Villain Opposite Oscar Isaac in Marvel’s ‘Moon Knight’
Yet another multi-nominated veteran actor has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ethan Hawke is coming to Moon Knight which will be debuting on Disney+ to play the lead villain opposite Oscar Isaac who is playing Moon Knight.
I can only imagine Ethan’s daughter, Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke, told him it would be cool of him to get into the MCU. Much like how Al Pacino’s grandchildren are pushing for him to join the MCU as well.
Most will know Hawke from either Training Day (2001) or Boyhood (2014), no matter which project you know him from, he’s crazy talented and I can’t wait to see what he’ll bring to Moon Knight.
Making his comic book adaptation and superhero debut, Hawke has closed a deal to join Oscar Isaac in Moon Knight, Marvel Studios’ series for Disney+, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Hawke will play the series’ lead villain.
Isaac is toplining the show, which is aiming for a March production start in Budapest.
May Calamawy, who is perhaps best known for her work in Hulu’s Ramy, is already on the roll call.
Moon Knight has had several incarnations over the decades since his debut in 1975, from being an ex-Marine turned mercenary with multiple alter egos to being a conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, to, most recently, a dapper consultant. In the modern comics era, one them of the story has been the character’s struggle with multiple personality disorder.
It is unclear who Hawke would play, but Moon Knight’s archnemesis is a villain named Bushman, a fellow mercenary who turned on the hero when Egyptian gold came into the picture.
Mohamed Diab, the Egyptian helmer behind Middle Eastern drama Clash, and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the indie filmmaking team behind sci-fi horror movies The Endless and Synchronic, are directing the show.
