Review by: Samuel
Here, we normally split our reviews into what we liked and what we didn’t like but not this time because this will be the shortest review I’ve written to date.
The Monkey is horror film that falls flat because it elected to be a comedy. The premise, the setting, and even it’s own trailer all scream horror, but the actual film itself wastes your time with comedic proceedings…and they aren’t even funny. That’s the worst part. If you’re going to waste a cool premise like a haunted toy monkey that causes Final Destination-like deaths, at least make it worth the audience’s time. But no, from the first kill in the beginning that involved cameo from a frantic yet somehow sarcastic Adam Scott, I could tell what I was in for.
Summary
It’s a shame that a film with the ingredients to be as terrifying as Insidious or Omen elected to go the comedy-horror route and fail to be funny.
