Review by: Samuel

The story shifts focus back to Sidney Prescott, now living a quiet life in Indiana with her husband and two children. The peace is broken when a new Ghostface begins a targeted campaign against her family, specifically her teenage daughter, Tatum. Sidney must reunite with Gale Weathers to protect the next generation of the Prescott line in a high-stakes "mother vs. monster" survival horror.

The critic, Sam, was largely disappointed with the film, describing it as a “scrapped together” project that fails to justify its own existence following the cast changes behind the scenes.

What I Liked:

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard your friends or other critics talk about this film, and I’m here to say…they are right. This movie is not great at all. As for my likes, they can be summarized as follows:

  1. The Opening Scene was great. The traditional opening where Ghostface torments a victim was actually pretty cool, and quite violent.
  2. Neve Campbell was really the only good thing about this film- she made it so you weren’t totally bored and disenchanted with the plot, though  I do resent how she got her starring role back (which plays into my dislikes below) With her, there is a noted sense of nostalgia and genuine interest whenever Sidney Prescott came on screen.
  3. Some of the kills were cool. They were generally okay, though at least one seemed almost cartoonish in its execution

What I Disliked:

This movie is a scrapped together mess. I mentioned I don’t like how Neve Campbell became the star again (after they refused to pay her, then changed their minds after they fired their replacement lead). Whether or not you agree with the Hollywood politics, that decision hurt this film because it’s clearly not what was planned with the reboot started in Scream 5. The movie shouldn’t exist and everyone on and off the set knows it.

Weak narrative, forgettable new characters, cheap nostalgia grabs, and much more plagued this film. It’s just…bad. The actually plot this movie tries to make you buy into is so dumb and it may border on Scream 3 level of nonsensical. The ultimate reveal of killer is the certainly the worst since Scream 3.

There’s a constant tease of a former character returning that feels so shoehorned in that is laughable, and the apparent heir Tatum, Sidney’s daughter is basically abandoned. In fact, I only remember her name because I had saw it as I Googled the rest of the cast for this review to remember what characters were in the film and what they contributed- the answers: not important and nothing.

1.5

Summary

Skip the theater and wait for the film to arrive on Paramount+ rather than spending money on it. Do better in Scream 8 guys.
