Review: by Anthony and Lee

Who doesn't love a Fast and Furious movie?  They have action, comedy, romance, and really fast cars -- everything you could possibly want.  But how long can a franchise keep going before it peaks?  When does it "jump the shark"?  We were very concerned that the series was already in a downward spiral and Fast & Furious 6 would be a complete mess.  Thank goodness, we were wrong.

What We Liked:

We loved certain aspects of the previous five movies that were present in varying quantities throughout but never really came together.  Well, this movie finally put the pieces in place.  All of the things we loved were present and accounted for, making this movie the pinnacle of the franchise.

Epic car races and chases? Check.

Fighting? Check.  How could there not be fighting with not only pro-wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and MMA fighter Gina Carano?

Hilarious banter?  Double check.  Between the back and forth of Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Tyrese Gibson and Tyrese and “The Rock,” the snide comments and full-on jokes just kept coming.

Your favorite character?  Double, triple, and quadruple check.  Everyone was there, and there was even the fantastic addition of Gina Carano, whose fight scenes took the movie’s action scenes to a whole new level.

The plot comes full circle in this movie.  That whole out of sequence randomness that was Tokyo Drift finally comes into focus, giving the viewers some much needed clarification.  Did you ever wonder why Han’s death seemed so completely frivolous and unnecessary? Well, stay after the movie appears to be over for the final piece of the puzzle.  Everything finally comes together, paving the road nicely for Fast & Furious 7.

What We Didn’t Like:

Anthony loved everything, and that’s great; however, I had a few issues.

The acting was not fantastic.  I know nobody expected too much from it acting-wise, but it has to be said.

Gina Carano, while listed as a plus previously, definitely seemed to be added only for the scene where she fights Michelle Rodriguez.

Vin Diesel is getting to old for this.  They’re going to need to bring this series to a close before it’s too late.  Grandpa Diesel needs his nap.

Summary

Aside from some nitpicking, Fast & Furious 6 was a huge success, becoming a major contender for best movie we’ve seen so far this year. Fans of the franchise will not be disappointed.
