[TV Show News] Vince Vaughn in Early Talks to Join HBO’s ‘True Detective’

Vince Vaughn is in early talks to join HBO's second season of True Detective.

This news is a bit surprising.  Vince Vaughn is one of the names I totally did not expect to be tied, no matter how loosely, to a serious show like True Detective.  Vaughn made his bread is comedy and looking back over his most recent films, he hasn’t been too hot.  However, I also would not have thought the paring of McConaughey and Harrelson would’ve worked, so if this proves to be true I’m ready to be proven incorrect.

It’s expected that some official casting news will break soon with shooting scheduled to start in September 2014. Also in talks to join True Detective season two are Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch.

The role is unknown but sources say it is unlikely that Vaughn would play one of the lead detectives in the show as the third lead is expected to be played by a woman.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is still working on the scripts while HBO moves quickly to assemble the cast. Sources say Vaughn has been interested in joining for sometime and has been campaigning with HBO for a part in the show.

HBO is also looking for a director and sources say it is likely that there will be multiple directors this season, unlike the last, when Cary Fukunaga helmed every episode.

The network is also working hard to find the female lead and while no decision has been made, several insiders say HBO may be eyeing “Mad Men” actress Elisabeth Moss. Sources add that no decision has been made and meetings are still taking place.
