Inline image 1My son and I are huge fans of the first Hotel Transylvania movie so it was simply a treat to be able to see the sequel of one our favorite movies. This movie was funny, cute and filled with excitement much like the first movie. You can definitely expect this monster comedy to produce the same type of shenanigans as the original movie.  Somewhat, like before, parents need to be aware of some rude language, flirting and some action with scary bits.

This time around Dracula (again voiced by Adam Sandler) is now worried about his grandson, Dennis; a human/vampire hybrid who isn’t showing signs of growing into his vampire heritage.  So Dracula is on a mission to teach his half-vampire, half-human grandson Dennis how to be a real monster. Dracula’s daughter Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) is once again ready to explore the world outside the castle walls to find a safer place to raise Dennis, which throws Dracula into extreme panic mode. To him, life as he knows is at stake which brings him the determination to bring out the fangs in Dennis with the help of his father Vlad (voiced by Mel Brooks) and the Drac Pack of course.

What I Liked:

I have to say that I was very interested in the entirety of this movie. Everyone from the first film seemed to be back and in full action mode ready with the jokes and action sequences to sustain anyone’s imagination. I really did not have a favorite part, but my son was super excited to see when Dracula was trying to teach his grandson Dennis how to fly. The Drac Pack goes to the same vampire camp that Dracula went to as a kid to try and teach Dennis how to fly and become a bat. From an extremely tall and very old diving tower made of wood, Dracula throws Dennis off the tower and expects for him to become a bat while in mid-air. Waiting on little Dennis to fly all of the kids in the theater were hysterically laughing at how the Drac Pack was overeating to the fact that Dennis was still “NOT FLYING.” Of course once Dracula realizes his grandson is not flying he immediately changes into a bat and rescues his grandson. Of course after the rescue, Dennis laughed and asks his Grand-Vampa if he could “Go again?” This also had all of the kids in the theater laughing.

What I Didn’t Like:

There was not much I didn’t like about this movie, however I believe they could have laid off of some of the adult jokes and innuendos. Some of what the characters were saying I am sure children could not catch onto and just because of that I believe that the movie should have been geared more towards speaking the children’s language. After all this is supposed to be a children’s movie.

Summary

With the full voice cast back and a great story line Hotel Transylvania 2 was one great movie. My son and I were pleased to see it and would love it if they were in the works to make another one. Seeing all the original characters and the new additions made it a great movie especially for this coming Halloween. One thing this movie did do was bring out what family means and how family always sticks together. To me it was a great way to show children some meaning to the word “family.”
