Review: by Terrell

My first initial thoughts before going to see this movie were that Gerard Butler was in it and that the guy from Game of Thrones was in it as well. That was all you needed to tell me to get me to see this movie.  I was expecting to have a good time seeing this and that nothing, NOTHING would stop that from happening. I was wrong 100%.

The god Set (played by Gerard butler) wants to take over all of Egypt, and challenges his nephew Horus to combat removing his eyes in the process. Bek (Brenton Thwaites) the mortal hero of the film teams up with Horus to help him free Egypt from Sets merciless rule.

What I Liked:

There was little to none to like about this movie. The only solid thing that I can say that kept me watching the entire time was seeing Gerard butler and Nikolaj Coster fighting on screen as giant gods. Chadwick Boseman and his role as Thoth was one of the things that kept me laughing among other things about this movie. There are a lot of well-known actors that are in this movie, for the movie to be as bad as it is, is a disappointment.

What I Didn’t Like:

Now here is the part of the review that I have been waiting to get to and the part that you really want to read.

This movie absolutely is not good and not worth your time or money regardless of how many big name actors that they put into this movie. The story goes off the rails almost immediately after the movie starts if you’re still paying attention past that point.

The CGI is inconsistent and terrible the entire time of the movie, and you would be surprised to hear that seeing as how this is primarily a movie done in CGI. The gods are supposed to be bigger than the mortals in this movie and that’s not consistently shown after the first few minutes of the movie. When the gods transform you can tell that they didn’t finish putting the final touches on this movie and that they just wanted to release this movie and be done with it.

Geoffrey Rush who plays the god Ra in this movie had the worse Johnny Storm CGI effects I have ever seen in movie history.

Next up is the acting which is for a piece of fiction some of the worse I’ve ever seen and that’s surprising because there are some really good actors in this movie that they clearly paid big bucks for to reel you into the seats. This feels like the entire time that everybody is over acting and clearly reading a script that they received for the first time. None of the fight scenes were good and they were dragged out and boring.

0.5

Summary

Gods of Egypt is absolutely not worth your time, money or soul. When you see one of those movies that look as if it’s going to be bad, then it probably is. I can assure you that this is one of those movies. If you’re looking forward to having a good time at the movies by seeing this film well then look elsewhere because this is not the movie that you want to see. If you’re interested in seeing terrible CGI with good actors then this is the movie for you.
