[Video Game News] Microsoft acquires Bethesda Softworks in $7.5B deal

This is major.

One of the reoccurring claims in the console wars between Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s Playstation are the game studios that have exclusive titles on those platforms and for some time Sony has been winning this tug of war.

Today’s news is a massive check in the column on Microsoft’s side.

Now for the ultimate checkmate move would be for Bethesda to announce Half-Life 3 only on Microsoft Xbox and PC…..but we’ll have to see about that.

Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax Media and publisher Bethesda Softworks, the company announced Monday. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, published a letter on Xbox Wire, welcoming the The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Doom, Dishonored, and Quake franchises, as well as Starfield and more, to Microsoft.
